This tool allows you to mark baked-in ads in your episode audio file. Read on for an in-depth explainer on how to mark embedded ads, and what you can do with them.
Why Mark Embedded Ads
ART19’s WarpFeed Technology allows you to mark an in and out cue in your audio then manipulate that audio in a few different ways. Here are some examples:
- Mark and automatically remove out of date ads as “Stale.”
- Target new ads to some - or all - of your back catalogue, replacing the old embedded ads.
- Track impressions on embedded ads.
- Target embedded ad to other series/episodes.
Marking An Embedded Ad
Upload your audio file in the WarpFeed window and allow it to process.
In the WarpFeed window highlight the beginning and end of your embedded ad with your cursor. If you know the timecode you can enter it in the “Selection” boxes.
Click the “New Marker” button and select “Embedded Ad.”
Type: If the embedded ad is current, select "Live Read" from the "Type" dropdown. If you'd like to remove the ad select "Stale."
Stale Ads (Removing the ad)
If you change the selection to “Stale” and the ad will be removed. When you do this you’ll also have the option to add an ad insertion point. If you want to target new campaigns to this content you should select “yes.”
Always remember to press "Save & Close" and "Process Changes."
Live Read (Keeping the ad)
If you'd like to keep the ad, and even target it to other series/episodes, you should select 'Live Read'. You'll then need to include a "Name" and attach it to a "Brand" and "Campaign."
Give the ad a name, the select the Brand and Campaign associated with your ad. These must be set up using your Ad Ops profile beforehand, but are accessible to users who only have access to the Series profile. This will then allow you to target the ad back to the episode, as well as other episodes/series.
Set the ad to Active, Inactive or Archived. If you are marking a stale ad it will automatically be labeled 'Archived'.
Active - Can be associated with a campaign and is active
Inactive - Can be associated with a campaign but is inactive
Archived - Cannot be associated with a campaign
If you want to hear a preview of what an ad will sound like, select an ad and click the download icon to create a link or a sound file to send to your advertisers.
Finally, click "Save and Close" to save the marker settings and "Process Changes" to add these to your audio file in the WarpFeed. Be aware - this can take a few minutes!
PLEASE NOTE: For the ad to continue to be heard you will now need to target the campaign back at the episode/series.
Targeting an embedded ad
Once you have marked an embedded ad it will appear in the Ads tab in the Content section on the left hand side of your series profile.
You can click to hear the ad and adjust it's status, if needed.
Now head over to the Ad Ops profile associated with this series and the campaign, and select it from the list.
Set up that campaign as you would any other, and target just the episode it appears in or to other episodes/series.
You will then be able to track impressions and other stats relating to this campaign.
Note: If you do not target the ad back to the episode it will not appear in any download.
