Sequential line items are used to tell a story across multiple ad units. Think Burma-Shave’s roadside billboards. When creating a sequential line item in the ART19 CMS, there are a couple of configuration options at your disposal. You can set the number of steps, which is the number of ads a listener will hear in the sequence. You can also toggle exclusivity.
An Exclusive sequential line item will not share a download with any other campaign.
By contrast, a Non-Exclusive sequential line item can share a download with other line item. If a sequential line item is inserted, its proceeding steps will be prioritized over other line items. Read on for step-by-step instructions for setting up a sequential line items.
Step 1: Create an agency and brand for your line item
Navigate to the "Agency" page on the left side menu bar under "Organization" within your Ad Ops Profile.
Select the blue plus sign in the top right corner of the "Agencies" page. Name your agency, then click save.
Within your new agency, click the blue plus sign to add a brand. Name your brand, select your brand's industry, and click save.
Step 2: Create your line item
Navigate to "Line Items" on the left side menu bar.
Click the blue plus signor the green "New Line Item" button, name your campaign, select the corresponding agency and brand, select "Sequential," select the number of steps, then choose whether you'd like your line item to be "Exclusive," or "Non-Exclusive."
Step 3: Set up your line item's flight(s) under "Run"
Flights determine when your line item is available to run. Flights can be targeted by both broadcast or standard ISO weeks or months, as well as a custom date with or without an end date. Additional, all options include day-of-week targeting. Select your flight and click save.
Step 4: Select series to target
Click the blue plus signin the "Series" card to select which series or network you'd like to connect to this line item. There is no limit to how many series you can add, but at least one series must be selected in order for your line item to fire ads.
When you've selected your series or network, click "Create." You'll be taken to a page where you can choose specific parameters for your line item on a series level.
On the Spend card, you can choose a CPM value for the series, a cap type, ability to run Spot and/or Live Read ads, and limit the line item to either RSS downloads and/or API listens.
Selecting RSS will make your line item available to the RSS feed (which includes downloads from listening platforms like Apple Podcasts, iTunes, and Spotify). Selecting API will make your episode available to embeddable players you may be using.
On the Episodes card, you can select specific episodes for the line item to target, or select a range of episodes.
See Step 5 for Positional Targeting instructions.
Step 5: Add AIPs*
Click "Add Positions" or the blue plus signin order to select AIP positions to target within this series. Note that for a sequential line item to run, you need to target at least as many AIPs as there are steps in your campaign. For example, if you have 3 steps, you need to target a minimum of 3 AIP Numbers.
*Your line item will not fire unless you've selected at least as many AIP Numbers as there are steps in your line item.
Step 6: Upload Your Ad Creatives
Click the blue plus signon each of the "Ads" cards, name your spot, then upload your file into the Audio Upload card. You must upload creatives for each of the steps you have in your line item. You can also specify 3rd Party Tracking at the Ad level.
Next, click on the Publish button located in the top blue banner that will pop up once your ad audio is uploaded, and you will be redirected back to your line item overview page. Repeat this process until each step has an uploaded and published ad.
Step 7: Schedule Your Line Item
Lastly, click on Schedule (or Resume) located in the top orange banner. Your line item is ready to go and will turn active when your flight starts.
