In this help center article, we review how to manage analytics prefixes for your series. The Third-Party Measurement Prefixes feature allows Series users with Owner-level access to add, remove, and update up to 7 measurement prefixes for each feed in your series.
Measurement prefixes are short URL codes prepended to the enclosure URL of each episode mp3 in an RSS feed. Prefixes allow you to supplement your data from ART19 and enable measurement and attribution for advertising campaigns (more info).
In order to manage your 3rd party measurement prefixes, navigate to the “Feeds” section in your series profile. Once in your “Feeds” section, navigate to the “Third-Party Measurement Prefixes” card (see below).
Important Note: Adding/editing/removing a prefix URL can potentially cause all listeners who have downloaded your episodes on Spotify to re-download the episodes causing a spike in downloads. Please take note of this for your analytics.
Adding Prefixes
Click the “+” button in the top right corner of the “Third-Party Measurement Prefixes” card, which will prompt you to input the prefix URL. If the prefix URL is valid, the service name will be shown below the field. Click save to add the prefix to your feed. You can add up to 7 separate prefixes to your series (chaining prefixes together is not allowed).
If you get an error message, double check that your prefix enclosure URL is correct and valid with your prefix provider and/or is not already applied to your feed.
If you receive an error that your prefix URL is not supported, please reach out to support@art19.com to request that we add your provider to our allow list. Se here for a full list of allowed 3rd party measurement providers.
Once you’ve added all of your desired measurement prefixes, your prefix management card will look similar to this:
Editing Prefixes
Click the “Pencil” icon under the “Actions” column which will allow you to edit the Prefix URL you originally input.
Removing Prefixes
Click the “Trash Can” icon under the “Actions” column of the prefix you would like to remove, then click the Delete button in the confirmation window.
Alternate Feed Prefixes
You can set up prefixes on your alternate feed the same way as with your Primary Feed. To do so click the “Add Prefix” button.
If you would like to mirror your Primary Feed prefixes, click “Use Primary Feed Prefixes”. Then confirm by toggling the switch to "Yes" and confirming by clicking "Save".
If you choose to use your Primary Feed prefixes, you will see the prefixes listed, but you cannot make any changes unless you disable the Use Primary Feed Prefixes setting.
Inactive Prefixes
In the event of a prefix vendor outage or similar event, the ART19 Support team may deactivate affected prefixes on your feed(s) in order to ensure listeners can still access your content. In this case, you will see a warning icon next to the service in the prefix card. No action is required on your part. Once the outage is resolved, the Support team will reactivate the service.
