Publishing (Series)
Series
At ART19 we call your 'podcast' or 'show' a series. This is where you control everything to do with publishing and content. You may have access to many series within your own ART19 user profile.
Network
Networks within ART19 are used to group specific series together. This is mainly an administrative tool you can use to see all stats together in one place. Not all series belong to a Network.
If you are interested in setting one up please contact support@art19.com.
RSS Feed
RSS Feeds are what connect listening platforms to all of your content. Your show's RSS feed contains all the information about your series and is what you submit to listening platforms so they can publish your shows. For most hosting platforms they will include 'rss' somewhere in the URL, at ART19 they usually look something like this - https://rss.art19.com/your-show-name
A series can have multiple RSS feeds:
-
Primary Feed: This is your main series' RSS feed that, in most cases, you will submit to listening platforms. All series have a Primary Feed.
-
Alternate Feed: Alternate feeds are also RSS Feeds but not all series have them. Alternate feeds can be set up to be ad-free, or used to publish exclusive or 'bonus' content to subscribers, for example.
Series Player Page
Each series comes with its own web-based player page. This is NOT your RSS feed. The URL will look something like this - https://art19.com/shows/your-show-name
Advertising (Ad Ops)
Ad Ops Profile
Ad Ops profiles are used to target ads (via campaigns) to your series. This profile is separate to your series profiles.
Campaigns
A campaign targets a series with an ad (or a number of ads). There are many options within the campaign to determine when and where an ad is served, how often, and to whom. There are two options for campaigns within ART19:
-
Standard: a basic campaign.
-
Sequential: Sequential campaigns are used to tell a story across multiple ad spaces. Multiple ads can be targeted, in a specific order, to multiple AIPs in the same episode. More information here.
Ad (advertisement)
An ad is a piece of audio, within a campaign, that can be placed into an Ad Insertion Point (AIP) in a series. Note that we refer to ads that are dynamically inserted, not a "baked-in" ad that is part of the episode audio, either read or edited into the episode before upload.
Ad Insertion Point (AIP)
Ad Insertion Points are markers that indicate where ads can be inserted into your podcast's audio. In ART19's WarpFeed you can add pre-roll, mid-roll, and post-roll markers to your episodes. These AIPs can then be targeted from an Ad Ops account.
ART19 Targeted Audience Solutions (TAS)
TAS is an ART19 program that allows you to monetize your content using our programmatic ads marketplace. You just approve the brands and we will run ads into your content. If you are interested in learning more about joining the program, feel free contact hello@art19.com.
Users and Permissions
User profile
Each user on ART19 has their own profile, using an email address. This user profile can be added to any number of series, networks and Ad Ops profiles with varying levels of access.
Access Level
Your access level for each profile determines what you can access within that profile:
- Owners can make administrative changes - such as adding/removing users, as well as approving name changes etc.
- Admins can publish episodes or schedule campaigns.
- Stats Only can only see the stats pages.
Stats
Downloads
Stats relating to series and episodes are measured in 'downloads'. A single download is registered when a unique user downloads at least 1 minute of audio from ART19, in a rolling 24-hour window. If the episode is shorter than 1 minute the entire episode needs to be downloaded. We filter out requests where the data implies the source is not an actual person, or is a duplicate request.
Impressions
Stats relating to advertising and campaigns are measured in 'impressions'. An impression is registered when all data related to an advertisement is successfully delivered (100% of the audio). We also filter out requests where the data implies the source is not an actual person.
Listeners (Uniques)
We can provide insight into your audience size over a specific time range - this is sometimes called 'listeners', 'uniques' or 'unique listens'. We use unique IP addresses and user agents to determine one 'listen' within a specific time period. The time period chosen affects the final numbers so should be considered carefully.
For example, if the same person, on the same device, listens once a week for a month this will show as one weekly unique but also one monthly unique. If they listened once a month for a year then it would also show as one yearly unique, even if they have downloaded many times. Uniques can't be added together to get totals in the same way as downloads.
These are available for both series and campaign statistics.
IABv2.1 (measurement type)
IABv2.1 is the name for the method used by ART19, as well as many other hosting platforms, to measure downloads and impressions. It was released to address the increasing demand for a consistent measurement guideline across the podcasting industry and has become the industry standard. Amongst other things, it aims to reduce the number of duplicate downloads counted from the same user as well as downloads from known bots, proxies and spiders etc.
